The catalogue provides three search options:
• Simple search
• Advanced search

  2. Press Enter on your keyboard.

Advanced search

  1. Enter a search term in the search box. Use a single keyword or more advanced queries using double quotes, boolean operators (AND, OR, and NOT), etc.
  2. Select a specific field from the drop-down list to limit your search to that field.
  3. Choose whether you’re looking for a ‘keyword’ or a ‘phrase’
  4. ’Add new’ criteria as required.
  5. Use the search filters below to narrow your search.
  6. Click the "Search" button at the bottom of the screen to perform the search.

Browse

  1. Click on “archival descriptions”, “authority records”, “archival institutions”, “functions”, “subjects”, “places” or “digital objects” to browse an alphabetical list of titles, names of people or organisations, storage locations, functions, subjects, geographical locations or images.
  2. Click on “Sort By” and "Ascending/Descending" to arrange the list alphabetically by name, reference number, by how recently the record has been added or edited, or by any of its other searchable attributes.
  3. Click on “Recent changes” to arrange the list so that more recent changes to the catalogue are shown first.

Results

  • Depending on how detailed the cataloguing is, your results may come as a single collection level description, where all the information is contained in the top level of the catalogue entry, or they may come in a hierarchical 'tree' with 'branches' that hang below the top level. The branches might have plus or minus signs on them that can be clicked on to expand or retract the different levels of description available.
  • If you would like to copy the address of the catalogue description, in order to save it to refer to later, or to pass on to someone else, right-click on the catalogue description title in the top search result box and select 'open link in new tab' - this will take the catalogue out of its wordpress 'wrapping' (so you will lose the catalogue menu bar) and the description address will now be visible in your browser's address bar.
